Yarn Bombing by onewing

Yarn Bombing

Until recently I had never heard of yarn bombing. In fact I posted a picture a few weeks ago showing this and it was Mary @mcmary who told me what it actually was. Since then I have seen other examples of this type of street art, or tree art whichever it is. Definitely makes you look twice at trees when they are decorated in this way.

I've never heard of this. Do they knit this on the tree ?

Lovely capture but I have mixed feelings of hanging this craft work in this way !!

@beryl I'm with you Beryl. Not sure I get it either. Surely it would be a better idea if you are going to knit or crochet something to make it into a blanket and give it to the homeless or needy or some worthy cause not to stitch it to a tree.

@traceyhn Not really sure. I guess that they crochet or knit the item and then stitch it to the tree once they have finished. Each to their own I suppose!!!

@onewing Absolutely in agreement !

These look to be crocheted. They're usually fitted to the tree and then seamed to fit or tied on.

In Warwick, we have a yearly festival Jumpers and Jazz in July. All the trees in the main street are outfitted with a theme in mind, crotchet and knitting features predominately. Really talented people around. This looks very similar. See my 365 2013 July 28th, just a sample :-)

ooooohhhh....love this!!! Saw a small sample of this at home last year on a walk in the park. Had not idea what they were. Kind of like them This is quite an elaborate work. It might be handy in a colder climate....hahahah! Great shot!!

Ha ha - I thought it was the English who were eccentric??
January 11th, 2014
is it too hot for the tree in summer?
January 11th, 2014
it almost becomes alive if you look at it for long enough! Really interesting Babs!

I must confess I'm not sure about this either and I'd be interested to know why it is done. Saw a couple of smaller versions here a couple of weeks ago.

If you do come to Warwick for Jumpers and Jazz ( it is every year ),let us know, we would be more than happy to show you around :-)

This is interesting and very pretty, but a tree would need wool to stay warm in MN. I think for a festival such as Sally is speaking of, this would be very fun and inviting . But, as a stand alone tree decorated like this..... it just leaves one wondering.

How funky! I love it :-)

Awesome capture! It a great Lol!

@mcmary Thanks Mary. Yes they are crocheted. I guess you must have seen quite a bit of this type of work. I'm only just discovering it.
January 12th, 2014
@hermann Thanks Sally I will make a note of that. If we are up that way in July I will check it out.
January 12th, 2014
@eyesmile Thanks Gena, I had no idea about this either until Mary @mcmary filled me in. Can't help feeling that Australia is a bit too warm for tree overcoats though!!!
January 12th, 2014
@smiffy37 Thanks Eileen. We have more than our fair share of eccentrics here I can tell you.
January 12th, 2014
@yaorenliu I would think so Yao.
January 12th, 2014
@heidihp Thanks Heidi. Not sure I get it. If it was in a festival like Sally @hermann said I can understand it, but just a stand alone tree, not sure about. Check out Sally's picture of the festival in Warwick which she posted a picture on. http://365project.org/hermann/365/2013-07-28 A festival of this type of work sounds like fun.

@paulaw I'm with you Paula. It must be the latest craze. I can see that a festival like Sally @hermann went to would be fun though. A whole town decorated like this I could appreciate. A bit like the Hit the Bricks festival in Newcastle on Street Art. Looks really good in a festival.

@zenna Me too Gayanne. One tree decorated like this looked a bit lost. I could be interested in going to see the festival which Sally mentioned though, sounds like fun. I'd just never seen this type of thing until a few weeks ago.

@tryingforsighs Thanks Rachel.

@sunraye Thanks Raye. Good job we don't get too much rain here or it wouldn't last long.
January 12th, 2014
Nice, interesting shot, I prefer the tree as nature intended :)
January 13th, 2014
@ourrube Me too. Just thought this was different. First time I ever saw this work was a few weeks ago.
