Country Mailboxes by onewing

Country Mailboxes

I took these two photos of mailboxes at Tidbinbilla when we were in Canberra a few days ago and though they would suit the mundane challenge.
I couldn't decide which one I liked best, so I made this into a diptych.

This month my topic album is going to be birds and day 1 is here http://365project.org/onewing/topics/2014-02-01
These are both lovely.... well spotted

I like the one on the right, very unusual!

They are great finds.. I like them both as well and wouldnt be able to choose either...

I like the one on the right, too. Lovely sunlight - is the lack of grass usual for this area or does it reflect having had a lot of heat in recent weeks?

Great find --I think the one on the left is more substantial -- more solid looking and would hold more mail !!

My goodness it looks dry, both mail boxes are great finds, I'd be proud to be the owner of either:-)

They are so cute and interesting, particularly as we don't have mailboxes. I want some of that light :-)

Nicely done. They look like rabbit hutches... Oh well, as long as the postman knows where to put the letters, then that is OK

Oh these are both so awesome! So fun to see something different! Good choices. Thanks for joining in Babs!!

I think they're both great, and demonstrate so well the individuality many rural people display with their mailbox. The photos certainly show too that the Canberra district is still drought-stricken!

Sorry, should've also said thank you for the follow. I enjoy looking at your work and admire your creativity.

Babs, I love the mail boxes here in Australia, these are a great example. There is a place down the Putty Road which for the life of me I can't remember it's name at the moment. Great diptych, I think the one on the left could do as a chicken coop as well. I went to Tidbinbilla a couple of years ago, had a great time.

Thinking of you this evening and I hope tomorrow you can find some joy in the day.

@ourrube Thanks Ruby. I love country mail boxes.
February 2nd, 2014
@joeyc I think I prefer the one on the right too. The left one is a bit grand for the country.

@mrsbaldy Thanks I just love country mail boxes.

@mercuria Thanks Ariel. Yes it is very dry at the moment. This was taken when we were in Canberra a few days ago and it was 39 degrees every day. Not rained for a while. They had a terrible bush fire about 10 years ago and the conditions are looking the same again now. Hopefully it will rain again soon.
Where I live we have only had 7 mm rain since the beginning of December so pretty dry here too.

@beryl Thanks Beryl. It is difficult to choose. The one on the left is newer I suspect.
February 2nd, 2014
@hermann Thanks Sally. This was at Tidbinbilla in Canberra and yes it is very dry at the moment.

@tryingforsighs Thanks. I'll send you some light if you send me some rain. I remember how dark the UK was in winter. Don't miss that.

@happypat Thanks Pat. Some of the mailboxes in Australia are very creative.
February 2nd, 2014
@lafish Thanks Laurie.

@steampowered A hutch for a very small rabbit though. Our rabbits are used to a lot of space which is why we have got so many feral ones I suppose.

@eyesmile Thanks Gena. Pity I wasn't at Coonabarabran this week, that is the area for the most creative mailboxes in Australia in my opinion.
February 2nd, 2014
@golftragic Thanks Marnie, yes Canberra is very dry at the moment. Lake George has disappeared yet again.

@angelat Don't know how often the postie gets out there, it is off the beaten track.
February 2nd, 2014
@sunraye Thanks Raye we are very creative with our mailboxes in Australia. @heidihp They very probably are handmade Heidi. Country people are very creative.

@elaine55 Thanks Elaine. I just love our country mailboxes here in Oz.
Tomorrow will be a positive day. I don't think I could go through another year like the last one. Our youngest grandson starts school tomorrow and is so excited, so tomorrow will be a happy day for Archie rather than a sad one for Zoe. We have to remember the good days not the bad ones.

@onewing So true Babs, what an exciting time starting school, full of anticipation and possibly a little apprehensive.
February 2nd, 2014
@elaine55 Not apprehensive at all, he can't wait. Deb was like that when she started school I remember and Archie is so much like her.
February 2nd, 2014
Such cool mailboxes! Very interesting since we don't have mailboxes like that.
February 3rd, 2014
@lynnz Thanks Lynn. These are out in the country and I suspect they are home made.
