Dunny with a view by onewing

Dunny with a view

For any non Australian viewers to my pictures a dunny is an outside toilet.

This was taken at Tocal Homestead yesterday. I hope it isn't still in use. (the dunny I mean) This was the closest I got so can't be sure!

Not a bad view, but could get a bit chilly in winter and it would be a bit of a walk, because it is quite a way from the main homestead.

Perhaps it was used by some of the staff rather than the owners of Tocal.

Today's animal photo

At least , plenty of fresh air to keep the place sweet !! lol !!-- wonderful capture -- and a talking point !! ha ha !!

This building should be conserved with as much commitment as the main homestead. It is one of an era and once lost will only remain in grannys' folklore.

Love it, and I can still remember having one in our backyard.

How true PerryFair, these really are from a bygone era. most modern homes have more than one inside loo, definitely no outside loo. great image Babs :-)

At least you had a beautiful view...nice find
April 27th, 2014
Should be classified ! At least it is preserved in digital form.

Nice composition and interesting subject..........

Great pic, very nice composition. It would certainly be a good view, and you are right, you would literally freeze your bum off in winter.

great photo also remember one when i was growing up :)
April 27th, 2014
That's interesting - ours was called a privy - a bucket under a wooden seat with a plentiful supply of newspaper - but that was in my grandmother's day BUT I still remember it!

HEW
don't fancy sitting in that much! great capture
April 27th, 2014
This looks like a bucket with a view. Great air conditioning. Haha

Lee
Great view of the lake while one has one, potentially a tad chilly though. Good shot Babs.
April 27th, 2014
Great photo love the Dunny good on ya
April 27th, 2014
What a wonderful shot! I would not be so worried by the view as much as the cold draught that would whistle around my ankles!
April 27th, 2014
Great shot - it does look rather as if it's seen its day!
April 27th, 2014
Yes a privy in the UK complete with newspaper on a nail.....before my time of course!!!
April 27th, 2014
Yours seems to have a lot of open viewings!
April 27th, 2014
Might be a bit windy in there
April 27th, 2014
Good ventilation! Always a plus!
April 27th, 2014
Wonderful view, looks like wonderful countryside.
April 28th, 2014
Great classic Aussie dunny. Love it. No seat = no redbacks, yayyy!
April 28th, 2014
Oh dear, a bit too much view for me. Open 3 sides! Lovely shot, full of atmosphere.
April 28th, 2014
Wonderful spotting and what a view
April 28th, 2014
Sure looks quite cold but a great find nonetheless! Wonder if they have the outback problem of red back in the toilet? ;)
April 28th, 2014
Dunny with a view alright. Everyone gets a good view!!!!!
April 28th, 2014
@net Thanks Lynette.
April 28th, 2014
@annied Thats okay Annie. You need a smile.
April 28th, 2014
@beryl Thanks Beryl. Pretty hot in summer and cold in winter I should imagine. The only problem with the open air is that it lets in the red backs and the brown snakes too.
April 28th, 2014
@ethelperry @hermann Thanks. I think it will be there for a while as all the outbuildings on the homestead are well looked after. Apparently Thunderbolt the bush ranger lived at Tocal for a while too and had a cottage on the property.
April 28th, 2014
@wanabe My Nanna had an outside loo too in her back yard.
April 28th, 2014
@leestevo I suspect it was only used by the staff on the property though as it is quite a way from the homestead. Thunderbolt's cottage is close by, so maybe he used it on occasion.
April 28th, 2014
@princessm I think it will be there for a while as all the buildings on the homestead are looked after. I think it is a National Trust property.
April 28th, 2014
@ourrube Thanks Ruby. We had a great day wandering round the property.
April 28th, 2014
@karlow75 It is right next to the pig sty too and I wouldn't fancy going out there at night.
April 28th, 2014
@onlyme111 Hope it brought back memories.
April 28th, 2014
@quietpurplehaze My Nanna had an outside loo in Yorkshire too, but it did have a flush at least it did in later years. Maybe not when it was first installed though.
April 28th, 2014
@hwhittle77 Me neither. Probably got lots of red backs in there and maybe the occasional snake too.
April 28th, 2014
@kathiecb You would probably need air conditioning in summer too. ha ha.
April 28th, 2014
@gamelee Thanks Lee. Pretty hot in summer and bloody freezing in winter I shouldn't wonder. Then there is the snakes and the spiders to contend with too. Dangerous business back then.
April 28th, 2014
@gerry Thanks Gerry. Every home should have one ha ha.
April 28th, 2014
@creampuff The cold draught in winter would be a bit of a worry, but in the summer when the temperatures can get up to 40 degrees C that would be another story.
April 28th, 2014
@dolphin ha ha. I think it is called character.
April 28th, 2014
@happypat It would need open views in summer, it could get quite hot in there I should imagine. You would need plenty of ventilation.
April 28th, 2014
@scarybird @april16 @dianeburns @golftragic @888rachel @tracelee @lilminimonka @terryliv Thanks everyone. this was as close as I got, I should imagine there are a few redbacks in there and maybe the odd snake wandering through too. You would need plenty of ventilation in summer I should imagine. Winter could be a bit chilly though.
April 28th, 2014
great shot - looks like the old dunny has seen better days
April 28th, 2014
@onewing oops that would be true but I wouldn't want anyone peeping in! Not your best look ha ha!
April 28th, 2014
I would use it only in a pinch...lol... maybe
April 29th, 2014
@lafish I think I would stick with the field. There could be redback spiders in there and the occasional brown snake too I shouldn't wonder. Safer in the field!
April 29th, 2014
Great shot! Looks like you would use a bucket? Ick! TG for inside toilets!! Nice view though...hahahah!
April 29th, 2014
Haha!
April 29th, 2014
@eyesmile @angelar I wouldn't be using it I can tell you. Probably riddled with red back spiders and snakes. I think I would be off in the bushes. ha ha.
