The Rocks is one of my favourite places to visit in Sydney, the area has so many photo opportunities and so much history.
The Rocks became established shortly after the colony's formation in 1788. The original buildings were made mostly of local sandstone, from which the area derives its name. It is adjacent to Circular Quay, the site of Australia's first European settlement in 1788.
In this picture you can see the juxtaposition of the old and the new.
I have to say that I like pink houses as they remind me of old colour-washed thatched cottages in my native Suffolk. I wanted to paint our house pink but it's built with fletton bricks apparently the only ones you can't paint!! So my husband was saved..... @pcoulson
And what contrast in architectural styles I must admit the most pleasing to the eye for me is the old with its neat clean lines and bright coloured building -- the pink seems to suit it !

Thanks everyone. Pink houses seem to be very popular here, especially on old buildings. Every town or village has at least one pink house.
Not sure that pink should be regarded as a girlie colour though Peter because if we look at history, pink used to be the colour for boys as it was regarded as a stronger colour and blue was for girls as it was supposed to be a softer colour. It wasn't until about the 1940s that the classic pink for girls and blue for boys was finally agreed on.
You will have to come and live out here Hazel, lots of pink houses to choose from here.
I agree Sam and Sally. The Rocks is a fascinating place.
@onewing Well thanks for the history lesson its very interesting Babs but it still looks girlie Pink to me. over here seems every thing for little girls are pink even saw a pink lawn mower in a shop the other day, a number car manufacturers can supply a Pink cars from new; Lol;)
@pcoulson Same here Peter with clothes for girls. Every girl wears pink these days. Neither of my girls were pink girls and I don't ever remember either of them ever choosing pink clothes when they were young. I think they were probably both tomboys. Not only are the girls pink these days they seem to be dressed up like bloody fairies too. Ugh. I must be getting old. ha ha.
