Kauri Tree by onewing

Kauri Tree

Day 11 of our holiday and our last stop of the cruise was at The Bay of Islands. We were on one of the organized tours today and travelled ashore on one of the tender boats. Our first stop was at the Kawiti Caves with its stalactite formations and spectacular display of glow worms. From there we went to the Puketi Forest to see the amazing kauri trees. The oldest tree in the forest is estimated to be 2000 years old.

It started to rain as we reached the forest and it was thought that our tour would be hampered by the weather, but as the bus stopped the sky cleared and blue skies swept in. Perfect timing.

After the tour we caught the shuttle bus to Paihia and had a wander around this lovely seaside town before returning to the ship on the tender boat.
Love how it reaches to the sky, nice to see the scale of the trunk with the people viewing at the base :)
