On my way out this morning I stopped at Boat Harbour to take a couple of photos of the rocks and ocean. This is where we come to watch the whales go by on their way from Antarctica up the east coast of Australia on their way to warmer waters to give birth to their babies. No whales today though.
We usually clamber over these rocks out to the furthest point to be closer to the whales and last week they have improved it and made a path across the rocks. I suppose it must be safer for visitors, but it does take away some of the excitement and the gravel path looks awful. Aw, well progress I suppose.
Gorgeous view over the ocean. Rosie ( my sister ) and Pete saw whales from Broomes Head on their little holiday away ( while I was freezing my butt off on her farm )
@stephanies Thanks Stephanie. We do sometimes go out on the whalewatch boats, but as we can see them quite clearly from the land here at Boat Harbour it is well worth just standing here for a short time to watch them.
@helenhall I will go back and take a photo of the gravel path. It does spoil some of the scenery, but I suppose it is safer for visitors. It is rather rugged here.
@golftragic I didn't stay very long so probably would have spotted some if I had been there a while longer. Apparently there have been a record number of whales spotted this season.
@golftragic You will have to check out the whales down your part of the world. Saw some today but none were breaching or tail slapping. I think they just wanted to get to warmer waters.
