Election Day here in Australia today and after voting we drove up to Boat Harbour to see if there were any whales. David had his big lens with him, but although we saw lots of whales passing by none were breaching or tail slapping. They were probably keen to get to warmer waters up in Queensland.
You can see some of the people on top of the rocks here and also the new path that has recently been put in to make it a bit safer to clamber over the rocks to watch the whales.
Your so lucky Babs to be able to walk a little way to watch the whales even if they don't breach, both my nieces can see them from their homes when they are passing, I've only ever got two images on them breaching both on whale watching trips in Australia:)
I see what you mean about the new path..... it cuts right through all that beautiful scenery....although I can see how it would make access easier and safer. How lovely to be able to see whales, I am abit jealous..
@ladymagpie It is lovely to be able to go out on the whale watch boats too and they come quite close to the boats, but it is good to see them from the land too. David isn't a very good sailor so much better for him from the rocks here.
@stephanies I suppose the path will blend in once some of the greenery grows through it. It is much easier to walk through now though and easier to spot snakes too, ha ha.
@inthecloud5 Thanks Christine. I am sure the path will blend in over time, it has only been here just over a week and looks quite an eyesore at present. Easier to spot snakes though. You never knew where you were treading before the path appeared.
So here is the gravel path you mentioned You are right, it doesn't add much beauty to the scene. But perhaps a necessary addition to avoid erosion. Enjoy the whales and I look forward to some shots of them eventually.
