Posting a bit late tonight, I've got a friend staying with us for a few days, so may be absent at the moment.
After posting photos from the bushland and inland at Maitland for the last couple of weeks, I thought it would be nice to go back to the beach.
The two teddies here belong to me and the 'girl' teddy was mine from when I was a baby so she is very old, and the other one my daughter Debbie bought me for my 50th birthday because she said it looked like 'Dad'.
My old teddy has had a varied life. She started out as a male teddy when I was small, but as our children acquired him when they were young he had a sex change along the way as my youngest daughter Zoe always referred to him as she. (Hence the dress). She was always known as 'Special Ted' too because whenever they had childhood ailments 'Special Ted' was always tucked up in bed with them and everyone knows that Special Ted will make you better.
When David had pneumonia recently I said to him 'Is this a job for Special Ted' and he said 'I reckon'. He recovered so Special Ted still has magical powers.
Special Ted is a bit battle-scarred and well worn, or rather well loved. She went bald very early in life because when I was about 5 years old I cut her hair and thought it would grow again ha ha.
I thought it would be nice for them to have a day out and spend some time on the beach. Luckily there was nobody else around to see me taking photos of two teddies on a beach.
I took this photo a few days ago which is lucky because it has rained most of the day today.
I had forgotten about Special Ted. Lovely photo . We have 2 friends here who travel the world taking 2 teddies with them . The original two were stolen when a rucksack went missing. They were more upset about that than anything else . Now they have 2 cute ones to accompany them on their travels.
What a great photo Babs! Lovely to hear your memories and nice to know your family don't think you're never too old to be given a teddy. :-) My Mum had her teddy Billy until she died last year. I decided that the best thing was for him to go with her to keep her company so he went in the coffin with her. You never know when teddies will come in useful in heaven! fav
what a beautiful story. I have two very old teddies too, almost as old as me. I love the little deck chairs. They look so happy to be down near the water and you have captured the atmosphere perfectly.
I've still got my Teddy and love him to bits. I rescued my brother's Teddy from the compost heap where he had got buried and I kept him until 10 years ago. He was amazed when I presented him to Trevor on his 60th birthday with a poem I had written. Lovely capture and a Fav
This is wonderful & totally adorable. ...loved reading special Ted ' s story :)
Love your composition & I reckon it would have been a terrific shot if someone had captured this whole scene of you capturing this shot :)
Aww, how very very sweet and such a lovely story to share. I do love their little deck chairs too. What a beautifully taken and composed shot Babs, it would make an excellent holiday postcard I think, fav.
@chimfa How awful that your friends had their teddies stolen. Special Ted has had lots of adventures and I used to tell Zoe of his adventures when she was small.
@cruiser so nice that you still have your teddies. Debbie, our daughter bought the deckchair with the teddy she bought me for my birthday and a couple of months ago David made the second deckchair for Special Ted.
@rosiekind I think everyone should have a special teddy. How nice that you saved your brothers teddy and gave it back to him on his birthday, what a gorgeous thoughtful thing to do.
Love your composition & I reckon it would have been a terrific shot if someone had captured this whole scene of you capturing this shot :)
Everyone should have a special ted.
I must admit I didn't think when I took this photo and then the passport one that it would raise such emotional memories for me. Nice and sad memories though. Thanks.
