NAIDOC Week by onewing

NAIDOC Week

This week is NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee) Week, so I thought I would post a couple of pictures of Aboriginal Art today and tomorrow.

NAIDOC is an Australian observance lasting from the first Sunday in July until the following Sunday. NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

At our local adult education site there is a community garden. The gardeners keep all their equipment in this large shipping container and it has been decorated by local Warrimay people.

The sign on the container says 'This garden is on Worimi Land under the care of local Warrimay people, who speak the Gathang Language. The name, Djagil Girranggu means 'Food for life'
Many local native food plants can be found in this garden.

Here you see one side of the container and tomorrow I will post another shot taken from a different angle.

The hospital phoned today and postponed my surgery scheduled for tomorrow until a later date because they had a few emergencies, so now I have to wait until I get a new date. A bit of a bugger in one way, but I have an awful cold at the moment so maybe it is best that my surgery has been put off for now.
What a great idea. Hope you don't have to wait too long till your surgery

These postponements are a nuisance aren't they , but perhaps for the best if you have a cold at the moment - just get well soon so to be fit to face your surgery ! A nice colourful image for today !

Love aboriginal art, so colourful. Probably is a good plan to wait if you have a cold. Always shocking for the body to have surgery of any sort. Wishing you speedily well again and hope your date is not too far ahead. Lots of love.

Great idea to brighten up a container, very colourful.
Hope you feel better soon.

@dorsethelen @beryl @casablanca My surgery wasn't urgent so not to drastic about having to wait longer. Just have to put up with a lot of discomfort until the problem is fixed. Better to deal with emergency cases first.
I am feeling a bit better tonight. Had a splitting headache all day and a sore throat, but has eased now. Ice cream always helps. ha ha.

I always admire their dots - needs a lot of patience.

Nice capture of the Aboriginal art work. Hubby Cees is helping out at NAIDOC tomorrow.

We did have an Aboriginal art gallery/museum in Holland. Sadly this month it`s finally closed. Great shot of the artwork on this container.

It is so interesting to see the Aboriginal art. It is nice that they have a time to celebrate the NAIDOC. It is good to keep history alive. I do hope you get over your nasty cold soon and that you get your surgery rescheduled soon too. It is bad to have to wait on something like that.

I love this colorful and decorative art. I think I draw a lot like it when I doodle but I know I do not have a drop of Australian blood in me so who knows where it comes from! Good shot.
July 4th, 2017
Oh, and I hope you're feeling better soon!
July 4th, 2017
Very interesting putting the art work on a container!
Hope you don't wait to long for your surgery! :)

Sorry to hear of the delay for your surgery, but if you've got a cold it's probably for the best for you. Anaesthetics are tough enough on the body without a cold. Love the colours in this shot, livens up a dull day.

@pcoulson @photobird @inthecloud5 @yaorenliu @littleconnie @gigiflower @365projectorgjenfurj @pusspup @sangwann @hermann @777margo @peterday @pamdavis2015 @julienne1 @lynnz @taffy @kwind @jesperani @carolmw @susiemc @chimfa @peadar @seattlite @psychographer @pyrrhula @henrir @olivetreeann @olivetreeann @radiogirl @golftragic Thanks everyone. Sorry I can't get a clearer picture of the side of the container. I will go back again on a cloudy day and try and capture sections of it and put them together in a collage. Apparently each section of the artwork was done by different Aboriginal families and the detail is for their specific family.
I am sure that it was for the best that my surgery was postponed while I had a cold and I am feeling much better today, but I really wanted to get this particular procedure over with because I have to have further surgery following this one. It is just prolonging the agony so to speak. I think I will be glad when this year is over, we have had lots to deal with not only in our family, but also with other friends deaths and illnesses too.

sounds a fascinating garden. Do hope you get your surgery over ASAP not good having to wait for such things.
July 4th, 2017
You are having a bit of a time of it with hospitals. Hope all is sorted out soon for you. the container is brilliant (in more than one sense) cant think of a better thing to do with a shipping container than this.
July 4th, 2017
Bummer re your cold and also the delay of the surgery. I really like your pov on this magnificent container
July 4th, 2017
Your write-up was most interesting, and the art work on this container is so nice and colourful. I am sorry about your surgery being cancelled and that you are not feeling all that well either. I really hope you feel better soon Babs and they are able to reschedule the appointment quickly for you.

Great opportunity for me to see Aboriginal art - we don't see a lot over here I'm afraid. Love those colours - they must be really vibrant in the sunshine!
