As we were walking back to the car we spotted two more plane wrecks and parachute drop containers and here is a collage of some of the plane wreckage from one of the sites.
I was standing in the middle of the wreckage taking close up photos when David said 'this looks like the nose cone of a bomb' (see top right photo). At this point I stepped back and walked away just in case there were any 'hot ones' in the vicinity.
@casablanca Oh no what a bummer. Maybe you need to go back to the milk bottles.
I've recovered from yesterday's adventures but started on new ones today. We are tracing my family history and some of my lot just don't want to be found. We got there eventually with some of them but it was a struggle.
@k9photo No it won't be hauled off it will be left there and no doubt the sand will bury it again one day. Only live ammunition gets removed by the RAAF bomb squad.
@pcoulson A couple of live mortar shells have been found over the last few years including one last year by a chap walking his dog on the dunes. Well it was the dog who found it actually and brought it back to his owner. The chap phoned the RAAF base and the bomb squad detonated it so all ended well.
