Mystery Flower Identified - Monarda - Wild Bergamot - Bee Balm

David has been cultivating this plant for some time. He can't remember where it came from but thinks it may have been seeds from Woolies. It has just started flowering and would love to know if anyone can identify the flower.

To be honest it could end up being a weed, ha ha because David has quite a track record of cultivating weeds. At least if anyone can identify it we will know whether to keep it or pull it out.

@julzmaioro Can you identify if this is a weed or a flower Julia. Chances are it is a weed.

To pull it out or not to pull it out? It depends on whether you like it!

@julzmaioro I think you are right Julia, it does have a strong smell and when I looked it up it said it has a sage scent. Well done and thanks. The leaves look like salvia leaves too. You are a gem

I have a plant identifier App and it has identified it as Monarda - Lemon Bee Balm, related to the mint family. Lovely plant and triptych.

@wakelys Well done. It has just come back to David what it is now and Monarda Bergamot - bee balm has rung a bell for him. (Sad when the brain goes isn't it). Thanks for your help.

@julzmaioro I think Susan has spotted it although when you said salvia it did look like that too, but David said he remembers now that monarda bergamot was on the seed packet. Thanks for your help.

In Indiana we consider Monarda as a native plant and pollinators love it -- especially bees. Extra bonus for me -- the deer don't like it.
