In the grounds of the Public School at Largs in New South Wales is this colonial slab hut which is a two room timber hut built in the 1830s.
The hut has since been set up as an old bush school and museum, complete with historic memorabilia including chalk-board topped desks, ink wells and quills.
The sign outside reads: 'This slab hut was built originally as a tenant farmers home sometime in the 1830s when the land was part of the Dunmore Lang estate. It stood about 100 metres south east of its present position and was lived in continuously until the 1940s. In 1978 it was relocated. The museum was established as a Bicentenary project.'
You can just imagine a family living in this hut.....times where hard & not many mod cons in those days....nice to see it still in use Babs......I like all your history.
I'm rapt, instant fav for me Babs. I just love everything about these kinds of buildings and the b&w has really accentuated the textures and general atmosphere.
Thanks so much for your lovely comments and favs. I just love the old buildings in Australia. The early settlers had it very tough when they arrived here.
