Reed bunting

At least, that's what I think it is.

I went to the Wolseley Centre this morning - because the weather was lovely and I wanted to see the kingfishers again.

I had miscalculated. I thought all the kids had gone back to school but one of our local authorities were still on holiday and it was heaving. Loads and loads of kids having a wonderful time, but neither the one kingfisher who had appeared earlier, nor many of the others, were going to hang around with quite so much noise and enthusiasm. It was a lovely atmosphere - but we didn't see as much.

It was hilarious when one enormous woman, who had a laugh like one of the Canada geese opposite, appeared and we all got the giggles (but didn't like to say why)

The tree creeper wasn't around.
One of the helpers directed me to the wet meadow area, where they have a new hide, as she had seen lots of orange tip butterflies. There wasn't one in sight when I arrived !

She had also said that they had had reed buntings on the feeders, "but not when I've had a camera".

I've looked up this gorgeous bird who was feeding when I went into the hide. I think I was the lucky one and that it was a reed bunting.

I'm going back for the kingfishers when it's quiet next week - and again in early summer when there may be fledglings - and lots to see.

Shhhhhhh......I do rather love retirement.
Lovely capture.
