@marlboromaam The buckeye is native to these California foothills. (Aesculus californica). Deer love the leaves, squirrels eat the popped out buckeyes, kids throw them, they're a little larger than golf balls. They grow resiliently, first to come out green in February, first to go brown in August. The name comes from their appearance in the photo, but the illusion ends quickly as the husk comes off quickly.
