Sparrow Hawk (I think) by padlock

Sparrow Hawk (I think)

Yep light not the best today so went on a local Health Walk, what a laugh that was. Must admit the pace was a good one and the hour passed really well. I you have one locally try it.
Now this is a filler of what I think it is a Sparrow Hawk. Taken on a river bank near where I see thew Kingfishers. The bad news is that apart from Rats this is the only predator for the Kingfisher.
Great contrast of shadow on the wings & tail padlock. His fat body stands out really well.....looks like he's managing to eat plenty of prey....hope not too many kingfishers! Just look at those eagle eyes!

Fascinating shot Mr P. I think I agree with you about it being a Sparrowhawk because of the piercing yellow eyes and the mottled breast plumage.

FAVulous shot...had one of these in the backyard. Not sure if he was after the small birds, squirrels or fish in the pond. Probably all or any of them. So exciting to see him (he wasn't successful while i was watching him) but never got a good shot. This is a great clear shot. Love that eye.
