A plant that grows wild nearby has always attracted my dog. She will sniff around the base as if it has been marked by a very interesting canine. Since she doesn't choose the same plants every time, I conclude that it is the smell of the wildflower that she likes.
Her leash is the purple spot in the corner of the picture.
Finally remembered its name - Pearly Everlasting - Anaphalis margaritacea!
