Duckpool

Yesterday started wet and windy but we didn't stay in. We drove to Bude in Cornwall and bought some hot Cornish Pasties from our favourite shop on the square. So sad to see the ancient huge oak tree fallen in the storms and now chopped up. The council are going to make benches from the wood which will be a nice memorial to a grand old tree.

We then drove to our favourite little cove - Duckpool and sitting in the car out of the wind we ate our lovely pasties. The boys appreciated the pieces of steak we passed over into the back of the car for them.

Finally we braved the wind and had a walk on the beach. We stayed at the back on the stones and the boys had a paddle in the stream which runs down the valley to the sea. When the tide is out it is flat sand but you have to climb over the rocks and stones to get to it.

My brother Brian brought me to Duckpool at least 50 years ago when it was relatively unknown. Now it is National Trust and on the coastal path so there are usually many more visitors. I have always picked up a couple of stones from the beach - grey with white stripes and we have quite a collection at home in the garden. I know it's not allowed but cannot resist picking up the odd stone which takes my fancy!!

The sun came out and we had a lovely drive back on the country lanes - only room for one car and a lot of reversing happens to find a passing place. We popped into Welcombe and Hartland and visited both potteries. Yes of course we bought some beautiful pots. A lovely day all round!!
What a lovely idea to make benches. Nice scene

Lovely way to remember the tree. It is cold, wet and windy here today too! But how lovely to be out on the beach together. Dogs look happy!
