I was due to meet up with two of my old school friends today. The last time we were able to get together was before the pandemic so we were all excited for our planned get together. Yesterday Gill had to pull out as she has an upset tummy. Phil and I decided to go ahead as we had so much to catch up on.
Phil was coming to Milton Keynes by train from Lichfield and I was driving from Wellingborough to MK both journeys about an hour. Meeting place outside John Lewis about 11 .30am.
I arrived just after 11am and parked in the premium parking right outside JL - perfect!
Then Phil texted telling me her train was delayed. No problem I will mooch about until she arrives. Second text tells me train now cancelled and the next train also cancelled. This would make Phil’s arrival around 2.30pm earliest! After a long chat we decided to cancel and reschedule for another date when hopefully Gill will be able to join us. The worry was the return trains could also be as bad!
As I had a three hour parking ticket I decided to have a mooch around JL. I haven’t been shopping since before the pandemic and enjoyed being out and about. Also nice being on my own for a change as my sister is normally always with me!
I bought a baguette and coffee in Pret A Manger and sat a outside JL watching a couple of chaps laying this brightly coloured carpet. I really enjoyed people watching! An old couple stopped and chatted and I learnt their life story. Had another mooch around before making my way home. It was a very disappointing morning but in the end I really enjoyed myself - so good to be out and about!
Well a big disappointment but like you I would have enjoyed a mooch round in a place I rarely go to. I’m afraid I would have succumbed & bought something from JL though! 🤣
@happypat I stopped in the perfume department and after a good look at the Clarins stand bought myself a couple of things plus a pot of face cream for my niece Ruth’s birthday. Got a makeup bag full of goodies as a free sample! Good sized things too. Very pleased!
Sounds like you made the most of what was a chain of disappointment. Unplanned things are sometimes the best.
