This is a Festival of Britain Crown Piece.
The first English Silver Crown piece was minted in 1551. Four hundred years later, on the occasion of the Festival of Britain, the Royal Mint issued a Crown piece, bearing on it's edge the date 1851-1951 in Roman numerals, and a Latin inscription Civium Industria Floret Civitas - "By the industry of it's people the State flourishes".
I think it was wonderful that the Royal Mint issued this Crown to commemorate the year of my birth 1951!! LOL!!
Items from the Festival of Britain are very collectible these days and can be quite expensive.
This is for my mentoring group - Macro - man made.
Many thanks for your lovely comments on yesterday's shot of the fork - very much appreciated.
What a fabulous combination of a beautiful, well-defined coin, and great photography skills...love the pov, the light and shadows, the definition of the edge...well done!
@taffy, @888rachel, @newbank What a magnificent coin Pam. This is a subject well worth a macro shot. I particularly like the way you've positioned the coin to display the features you mention. One of my sisters was born in 1951 so it was definitely a good year.
