My little jam pot celebrating the Festival Of Britain 1951 - the year I was born. They issued many items for the celebration and I have a few, but Festival of Britain items are very collectable and are normally very expensive for the most ordinary object. I was lucky to get this one as my BIL and sister were antique dealers and would travel around the country looking for stock. They picked this up for me at a car boot sale - a bargain!! One of my little treasures!!
Many thanks for your great comments on yesterday's images - very much appreciated!!
I've got a similar pot somewhere but it hasn't got Festival of Britain on it. This has reminded me to hunt out some of my boxes that haven't been opened for as least 20 years
I'm 9 years older than you, and I remember the Festival of Britain being featured in our newspapers and magazines. Australia was still very much tied to the British apron-strings at that time. Nifty little pot.
How I'd love to come along and keep you company on that drive tomorrow...then break out my wallet and buy some of the goodies your sister used to gather for the antique shop! I love old china and bought a ridiculous amount during my ebay years (the early years!) This little memento is a part of your early story made all the more special as your sister found it to be a lovely gift for you!
@rosiekind I had to add to you that only today I was looking in the closet of my art room and I have things on lower shelves with "stuff" piled in front, and I had to wonder if I'd ever see the contents again before I die someday!!! Then I wonder how much trouble it would be to dig into it all, would it matter, and how much mess would be left behind that never returns to the same place?!!!
