Never been asked this before!! by pamknowler

Never been asked this before!!

I thought I would share this story with you. We were walking on the beach and George was saying hello to every dog we passed in the hope they would play with him. I noticed the lady with the shocking pink hair and couldn't resist taking a photo of her - discreetly of course!! George then ran up to this dog and they said a quick hello nose to nose. I was taking photos of all his doggy encounters - as you do - well I do anyway! Suddenly the pink haired lady came up to me and asked if I had taken a photo of her dog. I said yes and she asked me to delete it!! I said of course and deleted the shot I had just taken. Of course I had already taken a few other shots which I did not delete. Now why would she ask me to delete a shot of her dog? If it had been a shot of her little girl I can understand - I would never take shots of children. All sorts of thoughts have come to mind but I am still wondering!! Am I wrong to keep a photo of her dog and put him on 365? I don't think so!!
I took shots of puppies at the vet’s with the permission of their owner. I was not allowed to use them until our vet had herself checked with the owner it was OK - duty of care on her part. But thT is a different sotuation to yours.
I have just remembered that I took a shot of a lady with a hearing dog puppy. It wa in training with her and they were out for a walk. She asked me to wait until she had contacted the organisation who did then say I could not use it.

@quietpurplehaze

Excuse my typing blips - on my iPad and my fingers do not work as fast as my brain!

Well what a story, she is a bit precious isn't she. Maybe her dog is wanted by the police or maybe he isn't microchipped.

If you are in a public place it is a free for all and nobody can tell you to delete photos. On private property etc it is a different story.

By the look of her I would say she is just having a bad hair day and everyone was copping the flak.

After an encounter like yours, I would have posted the photo too and the story to go with it as you have done.

The only thing I can think of is that she stole the dog and she’s afraid his owners will see his photo. My goodness! Well that was enough excitement for one day.

When you are on a beach or other public place there is no expectancy of privacy atb least that is the rule in US, And wearing pink hair doesn't seem like you want o go unnoticed. Wonder if the dog is being cred for and not supposed to be off lease or is stolen. Sorry evil thoughts

I often take pictures of my dog with other dogs at our local off lead area... Wouldn't bother me if anyone took pictures of my Eddie and he's a stock photo model 😂😂

That sounds rather weird! I have the same thoughts as Joan! Never heard of anything like that before 🤔

That's very funny Pam and I'm glad you have a picture of her to share with us today too. LOL

Odd really, a photo of someones dog seems innocent enough ????

Very bizarre - especially when you opt for pink hair - very discreet! ;-) I'd have done what you did! Definitely!

I think especially as it is a public beach, you had every right to take the photo. It is good that you did satisfy her request by deleting one. I agree with @louannwarren may be it was stolen. Very strange, indeed.

A super weird private and neurotic person. Fortunately we don't run into many of them! I recently posted a picture of Annie, the pretty dog I visit when I take my walk.

And the doggy was so good with posing for you too! I have been so much more stealthy in my shots of people these days (out in public) and I try to get profiles, walking away and a "sense" of the person more than too many particulars--that way, I get the "narrative" to the overall shot, but goodness, this one takes the cake!

That’s a strange one. Love the shot of the two dogs.

Nice collage and interesting story. Maybe she was thinking that if you took a picture of her dog, she might be in the picture too and didn't want to be in a picture. Not sure. That is kind of strange..

Such a strange one! I agree with the above. You are quite at liberty to use photos from a public place unless you are selling them for money I believe. However, on a more personal note as an owner of 6 dogs I would not mind one bit if you took their photo. It is different if you are saying where they live etc. as there are some horrid people out there who just like to steal other people's animals! I wouldn't give it another thought but I am inclined to wonder her motives :(((((

Obviously a grumpy 😡 so and so

Serve her ruddy well right, what a bossy & intolerant person, who did she think she was? If she felt like that just stay inside for goodness sake! It's a free country & dogs are dogs! I agree about the children but she was over the top there! This would really have upset me, feeling guilty & embarrased even though I would I wouldn't have done anything wrong. I think by the look of her she likes to be the centre of attention, her dog is really enjoying itself!

OMG...makes me think she dog-napped the pup and is trying to see him hidden! Such a weird thing!

How weird. I am glad you still managed to save the photos shown here. I am glad I don’t meet people like that Fav for this collage

My rule of thumb is if someone asks for it to be deleted then I will, unless I think it tells a story of the moment then I will keep if for my own personal collection, but not share it. That said it is a picture of a dog! For as many pictures of Finlay and George that I have seen I still would not be able to pick them out of a line up, so I think she is living in a bubble where she thinks her privacy extends everywhere. My only caveat would be that as candid and street photography becomes more popular it is in danger of setting new and prohibitive laws of privacy. If that happens then how can the normal day to day life of each generation be documented whilst still guarding the anonymity we think we should have when we walk out the door? I am very conscious of not portraying someone in a negative manor, but I still cannot get my head around that it is sweet shot of a dog!

Also want to add that I am glad you bought the topic up!

How peculiar, in my book she's right out of order doing that. I don't know UK law, of course, but in Oz taking photos of people, including kids - and dogs - in public places is perfectly legal. There are some qualifications on how the people shots may be used but in general as 'an Australian judge stated “a person, in our society, does not have a right not to be photographed.”' Our laws are usually pretty similar to yours so far as I know. Commonsense should always prevail especially with kids, of course but a photo of a dog????? Puleeeze. What's she got to hide? I think I'd've told her to take a long walk off a short plank.

Love your doggy shot!
I think maybe too much hair dye has got to her brain....
A bit of an over reaction on her part.
It takes a lot of weir & wonderful people to make society....LOL :)

Maybe the dog isn't hers......wondered if she was under police protection or hiding from a dodgy ex but her hair makes quite a statement, so probably not! Very odd to not want a photo of the dog. Although I have a friend who is always scared the people who steal animals are going to see hers and take it, so she is protective of photos of her.

I am not sure I would have included the photo of the woman, but I can't see the problem with the dog because without her, it is not identifiable.

Interesting looking woman, interesting story. I have no idea why she made the request but I've enjoyed reading all the suggestions above.
