I managed to find a lay-by to stop to let the dogs out for a walk and for us to have our coffee and cake. This was the view across the hills. Can you see all the dry stone walls making a patchwork of fields. When I see these old walls gong over the top of the moors I always think about when they were built. It must have been a hard life back when they divided up the land and built these walls. Well it must be a hard life farming on the Dales and the Yorkshire moors especially in winter when I am sure they must get snowed in. Four wheel drive needed in these parts!!

Many thanks for visiting and leaving your comments. We are having a lazy day today and making the most of the fabulous views from our farmhouse. What a beautiful place to stay. I wouldn't want to live up here though - far too remote in winter!!
What a stunning view ... I to wonder over the making of these dry stone walls .. I go past some when I visit my Sister over here .. I am reading the book of the Yorkshire shepherdwoman at the moment .. very tough farming life .. but they seem to be a tough breed.. Is that a tinge of heather on the hills..
@julzmaioro Not much heather over this side (West Yorkshire) although I saw some high on the moors as we were in Ilkley. I think we need to drive over to the North Yorkshire moors to really see it at its best (hopefully not too late). Maybe tomorrow. The main roads were too busy this Bank Holiday weekend which is why yesterday we kept on the narrow roads through the dales. Yorkshire is a huge county!!
