It is the 5th November and Guy Fawkes Night which is celebrated in the UK. There will be fireworks all evening - big displays and private parties in gardens. My poor dogs are already having heart attacks every time a huge explosion goes off!! I wish fireworks could be banned except for official displays!! We have been having fireworks going off for the last week or so - Divali is a celebration which has only recently joined in with the fireworks and it just adds to the time when we will be hearing them going off. We will be hearing them from now on until Christmas and then into the New Year!!
This is my image for Word of the Day - Guy Fawkes (bonfires/fireworks). I took the opportunity to burn all my papers with my name and address on and old bank statements etc. My chiminea comes in very handy for my little bonfires!!
Many thanks for visiting my project - I was thrilled to see both of yesterday's images on the PP!!
Hope you are feeling a bit better? Lovely cosy image. Sorry the dogs are suffering with the noise, hopefully it will all be finished tonight and they can settle down at least until New Year!
@casablanca If it was only tonight I wouldn't mind but I know from past years we will be having loud explosions going off in the middle of the night right up to Christmas and the New year. At the first sound both my boys start to bark and it takes ages to settle them down again.
Poor animals, it is not allowed here in SA. As a child I grew up with Guy Fawks, now I think of all the money that gets burnt! There are so many people in this world who would not suffer as much if the money were to be invested in them instead..
As I've just written to @casablanca, we loved to celebrate GF Day/night when I was growing up, but it's never mentioned these days. In our nanny state we common folks can't be trusted with fireworks/crackers, so we just spend untold huge sums on massive displays to keep the population amused. Bread and circuses come to mind. Every time there's some kind of event down at the Geelong waterfront the bloody organisers have a fireworks display so all the dogs can have cardiac arrests and/or escape in terror.
I love this, Pam. I’m sorry your fireworks are ongoing, it’s quite enough here to have them on July 4 and New Years. I’m especially sorry for the boys.
