Blood test by pamknowler

Blood test

I had to go for a blood test this morning to check my kidney function. This is following the new BP tablet I have started which is a diuretic. The good news is my BP has come right down and my average BP over 6 days was 132/80.

The reason I have changed medication is because the doctor thinks the problems I have had for years with hot itchy feet at night and restless legs was caused by the BP tablet Amlopodine which causes the blood vessels to dilate. It is two weeks since I stopped Amlopodine and I have to report my feet are now cold at night! No red feet burning and itching! I am still a bit fidgety but the main problem seems to have been solved!
I have had this hot itchy foot problem at night for years and finally I have been able to discuss the problem with the doctor and it seems to have been resolved!
Although I have never met the doctor I have been having monthly phone calls since August and can only be thankful that my BP has come down and my foot issue has been solved! Whoopppeeee!
Wonderful news Pam. It's bizarre how something that is supposed to be helping you can cause more problems than it fixes.

My Dad would sympathise, he got swollen itchy legs and quite a lot of other symptoms on Amlodipine too. It is banned in Holland! Glad you have found answers to help. Cheering you on to better things.

Excellent news. Hope you get to sleep better at night!

That all sounds like pretty good news!

Good news then Pam. So good to have that long term problem solved by the sounds of it. I too have to have blood tests next Wednesday to check things after a year in BP tablets. I’ve had to change the make as the first ones made my ankles swell. It’s good they are keeping an eye on us…just wish I could sleep better at night.

@happypat it’s funny Pat for the first time in years my ankles are not swollen! Amazing! Sleep still not good though. I suppose I am so used to waking up so many times it’s hard to break the habit!

@pamknowler It’s getting in the right tablets I think….trial & error! Let’s hope we are sorted! Swollen ankles are not a good look!! 🤣🤣🤣

Yea to getting two steps ahead. The sleeping is such a problem - I have to wear loose socks at night as my feet freeze.

Sounds like very good news Pam

Sounds like you have a good doctor...Take care...

So it’s Amlodipine that causes my hot itchy feet! I don’t know what they can change in my case because I had been on Ramapril for years until I developed an allergy to that with my tongue swelling up in the night - very frightening! So then I was changed to Amlodipine and Indapamide to keep my BP under check

Great BP and good to hear your side-effects had subsided!

@rosiekind Ramapril was the very first BP tablet they put me on but it gave me a constant tickly cough (one of its many side effects) and that’s when I went on Amlopodine.
I am now on Losartan which with the Amlopodine brought my BP down. Now taken off the Amlopodine because of the side effects and he has put me on Indapamide. Hopefully with this new drug plus Losartan my BP will stay down. Testing again for average BP over 6 days snd will speak to doctor again next week.

Great news Pam, what is the new medication called? I've been on amlodipine for a few years without any bad side effects but now my GP wants to change it as my BP has been too low the last few times.

That sure is wonderful news!

@kjarn Kathy I am now on Losartan plus Indapamide. Doing my average BP tests again for 6 days. Let’s see what the doctor says next week. I think I am getting there!

I’ve never heard of either of those and after researching them, they are available here but neither are on the PBS. Fingers crossed these are the correct meds for you
December 4th, 2021
@kjarn the doctor thought my BP would go up again once I stopped Amlopodine. Oh well we shall see what happens. Trial and error it seems plus hoping there are no more side effects.

Glad changing the meds seems to have solved the problem with your feet, and is helping your BP as well.
