As you know I am a long way from the beach so this is a re-edited shot I took while visiting Crosby Beach a while ago. These sculptures are part of an exhibit of 100 cast iron sculptures of the artist Antony Gormley's own body and are placed all along Crosby Beach facing the sea. The sculpture is known as "Another Place". I liked these three looking out to the wind farm which is right across the horizon. It really is a spectacular sight and I want to return when the tide is in.
What a gorgeous shot! If I had to make one minor criticism, it would be that the horizon isn't quite straight but it is as near as dammit so don't let me get all picky!
@swilde@steampowered@maggiemae Thank you so much for your great comments!!
Paul I could kick myself - I am always so careful with horizons and I forgot to check it!! If I redo it and upload again I will loose your comments so I will leave it.
Sue many thanks for the Fav!! very much appreciated!!
Maggiemae the statues have caused some local controversy in Mersyside as some consider the statues to be pornographic and others as beautiful pieces of art which have brought increased tourisn revenue to the area. Others have also complained about the statues - conservationalists saying birds are compromised by the increase in tourism. The coastguards on safety issue - some of the statues were moved. Protest of one sort or another has gone on for years. I personally think they will stay there permanently as the income to the local people from tourists is enormous!!
@steampowered Gosh Paul I have measured it and it is minute! Wow Pam what a fabulous composition, I love those statues but I could see there may be controversy over them.
@elaine55 Elaine thank you so much for your comments I really appreciate your support. I did check out in LR how much I was "out" on the horizon and it was just a tiny bit. I think there is an optical illusion going on as well as the wind turbines on the right of the shot are further away than those on the left. Anyway I haven't changed the shot as I didn't want to loose the comments and Fav!!
Fantastic image, I am dying to get up there to see those statues, I have seen some amazing photos of them on this site and this one is no exception. FAV
This is terrific! A fav -- so well balanced. And, as an extra treat, I loved the commentary and responses on the horizon. Paul has a great eye, but I admit, I can't see the 'off' on it. Great shot!
I was just looking this place up on Google yesterday to see where it is... this is a marvellous view I'd love to get up there.. @seanoneill I thought you might like this one too :)
I love your pov - the windfarm gives a "view" and a context for them and somehow (it might just be me) increases the bizarre aspect of the figures withstanding the tidal flow. I cannot really grasp the size of the statues - Also I find that it takes a huge "groundswell" of opinion to overcome the "inertia" of the status quo - between that and the revenue that this sort of installation generates in tourist terms I think the statues are probably quite safe!
@colie@kittikat Many thanks Colie and Kitti!! The statues are life size Kitti and stand on a small plynth which makes them a little over 6 feet in height. The ones that get covered by the sea every day are now covered in barnacles in very strange places!!
What an amazing shot, it almost doesn't look real! Love the stripes of colour. I'm sure you could straighten the horizon (are you sure its not straight?) in Picmonkey and then you won't lose the comments.
@kjarn Many thanks Kathy!! I have taken the shot into Picmonkey and I have measured the horizon both sides with a ruler. If its not straight now i give up!! I have never used Picmonkey before so its good to know you can edit the shot without losing comments!!
also love the horizontal lines pam - i imagine that at times these guys must be a bit menacing to see along the coast - would love to see them myself for real
