As I was following the buzzards taking lots of shots I suddenly jumped out of my skin as a crow flew across my sight and started to try to chase the buzzards off. So photobombed by a crow!! The crow was trying to attack the buzzard - he was very brave when you look at the buzzards beak and claws!!
The crow is a bit soft as I was focusing on the buzzard
25/10 How lovely I have woken up to find this on the PP!! Thank you all for your wonderful comments and Favs which got it there!! You are all so supportive - it has made my day!! Have a great weekend!!
I think you have a crow and a hawk and not a buzzard. Crows chase hawks all the time. In fact, I know hawks are nearby when I hear crows! Fabulous capture!
@darylo I bow to your better knowledge Daryl. I checked the ID with my bird book and it looks like a buzzrd to me - especially in the other shot where his wings are stretched out. I should have just said - Bird!! LOL!!
@darylo I am certain this is a buzzard; the wing tips, dark carpal mark and rounded tail. I've seen crows mob buzzards often but never been lucky enough to get such a fantastic shot.
I have to comment.... This "Buzzard" is beautiful. I googled buzzard in England... Your Buzzards look like our USA Hawks.. Simply a beautiful bird!!!!!!
@lucypics It really helped me too! Buzzard over here is exclusively to refer to a vulture! Believe me, this is not the first time I have made the wrong comment--I love this site!!! :)
@darylo and there were poor little English us with our bird books out feeling sure this was a buzzard! I should know better, my dad is American and he uses confusing names for our birds!
@lucypics So I have a question. Every time I post a "hawk" photo, someone from the UK says, "Wish we had those" and I'm thinking well, if this is the buzzard from UK, it has a very similar look! I guess from my article, what we may call hawk is still a buzzard or a buteo, and only very few birds are hawks. Should I reply next time, "but you have lovely buzzards!" Hahahaha, over here, everyone would think "lovely vultures!"
Great capture. Sudden encounters make for great opportunities....as long as one doesn't panic. Here in Ontario I've never seen a crow chase a hawk. Perhaps if they were defending their nest.
@steampowered@salza@rosiekind@anazad511@lucypics Many thanks to you all for your great comments and especially the favs!! very much appreciated!! This has been an interesting shot with the discussion about Hawk or Buzzard and now we know - this was taken in the UK so it's a buzzard!! LOL!!
WOw! I have always wanted to get a shot like this. I did get a crow harrassing a hawk, but in dimmer light, and from farther away. Never posted it. So you live in an area where you call these buzzard, huh? I read that they are buzzards, but in my neck of the wood (Georgia..USA) we call them hawks. And we call huge ugly Turkey buzzards 'buzzards." Anyhoo..great shot! fav
