20th December 2013 - The big boys are in town

Now who would argue with this magpie? Not even little robin who sat and watched this big bird try to get the entire contents of the tray into his beak!! I have run out of mealworms and crushed a couple of stale mince pies into the tray. It didn't take long for the big boys to arrive!!

See the robin watching and waiting http://365project.org/pamknowler/extras/2013-12-20

Many thanks for your lovely comments on my candle shots yesterday. Very much appreciated as always!!
Beautiful to look at but not so nice to smaller birds -- great shot !

You mean you didn't give the magpie Fresh mince pies!!! I know they are pests but they are beautiful too.

Tehehehe this one has its pecker full! :D

What a beautiful bird!I have never seen one!

I think they are beautiful but I know inWyoming as kids magpies were the target of many of my cousins hunting lessons. Sad to remember now.

Greedy bird!

Look at him stuffing his beak. I love nature and adore animals but I have to say magpies are not my favourites, they steal my chickens eggs from their nesting box! Great shot though

Lovely capture! They are so fast I can't seem to catch them!

Another lovely capture of this greedy bird!

The same as the magpies here. They are beautiful, intelligent bullies. It really helps this image that the eye shows up through his black feathers.

Super capture,lovely detail!!
December 20th, 2013
Oh so pretty! Our bullies are the stellar blue jays - also gorgeous - seems we all have them. :-)

He looks almost to big for the feeder. No wonder the smaller birds stayed away!
December 20th, 2013
You can see the strength of his beak here! Horrid to have them attack you from behind when riding a bicycle as has happened with me!

Wow, no wonder the robin was queuing!

A wonderful capture of this greedy critter. He is into eating that all up.

What a fabulous shot. I adore magpies and this one shows him off beautifully

@maggiemae how horrible! That must have been so scary! I didn't realise they would attack people! I hate them when they raid the nests of the other birds and steel the eggs or chicks and kill them! I hate the sound of the adult blackbirds crying the alarm when these birds come raiding! Not my favourite bird although he does look beautiful when the sun shines on him.

Ahhhhh....this is a great capture. Love his colors and the way you captured him!!

He looks like quite the glutton!! What a good capture -- and I learned from your thread about their aggressiveness! Didn't know that about them.
December 21st, 2013
Love this Pam, the darkish background suits the colour of the bird perfectly
December 21st, 2013
Well caught!, they can be comical, but this year one stole all our blackbird's eggs from their nest :(

Jo
Wow what a fabulous shot Pam, really great to see it so close up even if it is stealing that darling robin's food! Fav
