Well I think it's a young female blackbird but if my ID is wrong please let me know. The head is a much lighter colour than the rest of the body so maybe it hasn't got it's adult feathers yet. I haven't seen one like this before. I noticed it is in my garden all the time and seems to love the mealworms. I then saw that it has a deformed leg like a club foot with a bit dangling. He can fly as Finlay is always chasing out into the garden and he flies away. I am hoping he will be able to grow to be an adult and not get caught by the many cats of the area.
Sorry I have not been commenting and uploading for the last week but I have had sinusitus and it affects my eyes. I have been taking shots out of my window and this is the only one in focus!! Feeling a bit more human today thank goodness!! I hope to catch up soon.
You are SO close! Very cool shot with great details in its feathers, feet, and head. Its eye looks like the bird is trying to watch you out of the corner of its eye.
It doesn't really resemble a female blackbird. But it is definitely going to some kind of mold so is changing and I don't think the female blackbirds have that lighter colored had. I was thinking of the cupboard at the week is not right for cupboard. So at this point your guess is as good as mine.
Love the focus and pov here and i feel so sorry about the deformed foot. Thanks goodness the wings still work! I have sinusitis sometimes and I know how painful and generally nasty it can be. mine often flares up if my head gets cold, so I start covering my head of doors earlier in the season than most people. I`m glad yours seems to be on the mend--you have my sympathy.
Hey Pam! I live in the USA in the state of Georgia, not far from Florida and the ocean...just a couple hundred miles. So it is very hot here and the humidity is awful!!! We get a break between Dec to Feb and then it starts warming back up. It's so nice to meet you and I am following you also, thanks for the follow from you!
This poor bird!! I always try to take special care of the unusual animals and birds that I get in my yard. We have a bird here that has the light brown head and black body and it's the female "Cow Bird" The males are all black. They got their name from following the cows in the field and "picking up after them"!!! I don't know if you have those kinds of birds where you live or not. I noticed right off the bum leg and felt so sorry for it, but if it flys ok then I'm sure it can take care of itself. It's a great capture and fantastic details. Love the catch light in his eye!!! Nice composition also!! I look forward to many more of your photos!!
@cashew Hi Kathy lovely to meet you!! I must remember if I am ever lucky enough to visit your part of the USA that I come between December and February!! LOL!! Thanks for the follow.
Gorgeous shot with the catch light in his eye! Fav for me. I agree with @cashew - it's a brown-headed cowbird. Wonderful detail. Hope it fares well with that leg.
