Another garden shot. This is a hook sticking out of the bird table. It did have a fat ball hanging from it but after a very traumatic incident this morning I have thrown all the fat balls away. A bird dropped a fat ball on the ground and Finlay started to eat it. He started to choke and in the end went into the bushes and collapsed. I thought he was dead!! I grabbed him and forced his mouth open and stuck my fingers down his throat. I think I pushed the blockage down thankfully. Finlay was frightened but seemd ok after that. He has eaten and has drunk some water but I am keeping a close eye on him to make sure the blockage didn't move further down. I have aged 10 years today!! I was shaking as I really thought he had died. I have a bad headache now - Finlay has been chasing round the garden like a mad thing so he is ok thankfully!!
So no more fat balls for the birds - they will have to make do with meal worms and seeds.
I gave the shot a water colour filter which gave an interesting pattern. Look large if you have time.
Oh no!!!! That sounds just horrible! You acted quickly and probably did the equivalent of the Heimlich maneuver to save his life. As long as he could eat and drink water, you can be confident the blockage is gone. I'll be thinking of you two today -- please give us an update when you post again. Oh, and the photo is brilliant, but a bit ominous.
