I drove Ruth home after lunch yesterday as it was torrential rain and gale force winds. I popped into her house to meet her latest pet. Pablo the Muscovy house duck. Last year Denise who owns our cottage gave Ruth an egg to see if she could get it to hatch. You may remember there was a baby duck last year who couldn't feed and had a twisted leg. Denise looked after it and after 10 days put it back with it's mother and siblings. Thankfully it was accepted. In the case of Ruth's egg when it successfully hatched it never saw another duck and thinks Ruth is it's mum. He really loves Ruth and sits on her lap in the evening and follows her everywhere. The dog and the cat ignore the duck - well it is bigger than the cat. In fact they all sleep on a large bed together. Pablo thinks he is a dog. By the way Pablo loves Molly and she loves Pablo!!
Denise is going to bring a young female Muscovy duck up and introduce her to Pablo. Hopefully they will keep each other company.
Well I have never heard of a house duck before! They can be such characters but at least Pablo will keep clean & dry in the house....they do like a bit of muddy water!
