Oh Helene! I'm just seeing this post and your other...what's the story behind this?! He's one of us...we love him to pieces! Did I miss something along the way? My heart goes out to you and all Chamallow's fans to have to part with him. I do love that face and all the joy he gave us...♥
@Weezilou Thank you Louise. Cham's belong a to friend. 12 years ago she lost a 18 months old boy in an awful car accident. She thought it could be a good thing for her 2 girls to have a kitten but didn't want to buy one. I found Chamallow (well in fact I found a place with 3 kittens and she choose Chamallow).
Since that time we take care of Cham every vacations. From time to time he spends more time with us. He's not unhappy with his family but certainly feels better with us (he poops on beds quite often there, I guess he's sending a message!!).
He was with us since last August because my friend needed a break of laundry. Hahaha!!! She told me that she was thinking of us keeping him all the time and them taking him for vacations. Now the girls are 19 and 21 years old so you know they have other things to do than taking care of the cat but they still love him and there's a strong story between them and the cat... Anyways, they wanted him for Christmas vacations but Cham had digestive problems at this time so we needed to take him to the vet (my friend has a tough life and can't afford the vet so for 11 years we take care of that). Now that Chamallow is feeling better, the girls (and of course mostly the youngest one) want to see the cat again. We can't blame her and we understand. But Louise you know cats and now Cham is 12 years old. He's getting old and we think that it's better for him not to change home, so we told her that if they want him back, it's forever.
My friend can't tell her girls that they can't see Chamallow anymore (or she would have a take a kitten to replace him and she doesn't want that). He's not unhappy with them but he needs a calm house and he hates to stay alone too long. My guess is that even if the girls want the cat at their age they'll go out, away for week ends and he'll be alone and will be naughty or get sick. If it happens, she will be able to tell the girls that Cham needs to stay with us forever because it's better for him. Also I don't think she'll be able to spend the money she should on an old cat's special food and vet. This is cruel but we told her that we couldn't pay if he's not with us anymore because since December we spent a fortune but it was ok because he was staying with us.
Sorry for the long story Louise. I feel sad, very sad but think (hope) he'll be back soon. Thanks for your support.
@parisouailleurs Oh bless you Helene...you've been as good as a friend can be, and what a tragic bond it was that set this in motion! Your story here will touch everyone who follows your photography and loves Cham, and I think you couldn't be more fair in going forward in this way. At the heart of all this is Cham's "contentedness", and while it will be hard to have him away, if you know he's indeed, being well cared for, I hope that will bring you a sense of peace. If they do decide to relinquish him back to you, again, it should be about what makes Cham most comfortable, For all concerned, I hope the outcome is the best for everyone, (It's interesting, with our intersecting lives that allow a photographic view into one another's space, everyone has a story beneath the surface. If that bubbles to the top, as we've seen on a number of occasions, it's comforting to know so many out there truly do care and embrace us with their thoughtfully chosen words. You're in my thoughts at the end of my day...you and Cham and all involved...xo
Thank you for sharing the background story on Cham Hélène - your approach is absolutely fair in the circumstances and being a cat-person too, I understand how you must be feeling at this difficult time. And this lovely shot captures just how handsome he is.
A fabulous portrait of him. I do hope he comes back to you soon, you are his real family. You can give the girls a nice framed photo of him - I know not the same but still a nice memory.
Very handsome boy. What a difficult situation! You have been a wonderful friend, but there are limits. I think, at this point, that Cham's welfare is most important, and I hope he ends up staying with you, as he seems happiest there.
This story of Cham grips my heart, Helene! Hope the best, that C will be with your sooon. Since Anders past I'm a sissy about things like this...still I know, nothing lasts forever.
@nanalisarocks Thank you very much Lisa. I just came home a moment ago and one more time realised how much I miss how he used to be so friendly just waiting for me to sit to do a big cuddle. I'm still sad
