for your support and all your nice comments about the book. I don't know how to express my gratitude. I really need you to know that you all have been very helpfull and give me confidence.
To tell you the thruth, it's a small souvenir book about Paris, like a postcards book. I arrived at the end of the project and most of the pictures were already choosen. I sold 12 pictures on 160 and honestly I don't think that my best are in the book. First of all they needed some specific subjects and I didn't have time to go for a photo shot. So most of the pictures are old ones, taken with my p&s and I know I could do better now! Secondly they wanted pictures as a tourist can take, they didn't care about people, cars, garbages bags... wich are the things I avoid. Most of the time I rather have too much sky and skip the bottom of the monuments and this was not that they needed.
Anyway, this is the first time I earned money. 2 websites are illustrating articles about Paris with my pictures but for free. I feel very happy, proud and most of all really grateful to you, my 365 project's friends for all the wonderful words you write days after days about my pictures.
This picture is old, The Souvenir Book didn't use it, so this is my way to say that I now need to think about other ways to sell my pictures. I would love to do "my intimate Paris"... I'll let you know!
Merci mes amis
Living between Paris and the countryside, love taking pictures, a lot of pictures...
Publish different ones from this project on my blog.
You can also...
I just got my first picture published, also for free, because it's a church-magazine, but I'm really proud! But you really desrve it, your pictures are amazing! I hope you can publish more!
Oh, I love this shot, Helene! It's such a wonderful detail shot that immediately screams "Paris." It reminds me of a wonderful little cafe where I had breakfast on my last morning there. I don't remember where it was exactly, but it was across from Les Tuileries near the Louvre. I was petrified because my French was just embarrassingly bad and it was my first time in the city by myself (my husband had to go to work). I hadn't spoken in nearly 10 years and since it was a last-minute trip, I didn't have time to brush up. I'm sure I butchered the language, but everyone I encountered was kind enough to switch to English when I started to struggle. Maybe it was because I wasn't there in the height of tourist season, but I found everyone to be so nice as long as I at least attempted to converse in French.
I think it is wonderful that someone bought your photos for the book and I think that first sale does so much for confidence! That is something I could use more of myself, but when I sold my first kitchen photo last month I was thrilled. You do have al talent for finding those special parts of Paris that the tourist might overlook and i think "intimate Paris" is a great idea! I would buy it! It is very hard to put yourself out there, but you have the talent to back it up! Bon chance!
This is a great pic that every visitor who loves Paris will recognise with affection. I'd love to be heading for that chair! Keep going with your book idea - my friend writes/illustrates children's books and has been trying for 20 years - and now has multiple book contracts. Hopefully it won't take that long but perseverance is the key!
Congratulations Helene. You take unique and interesting photos. I am glad you were able to sell some and get this material reward for your heartfelt work. Well done. I love this one as well.
Book?? Did I miss something?? I'm so happy for you, that is a great accomplishment and in this case a honor. You do take great photos! :-) Put up a link for your book and where your photos are up at. Thanks :-)
Great shot, love the repetitive nature. I have a friend who just got her first book published on Amazon. I don't know if they do something similar for photo books. They print as orders come in (modern technology is amazing). But she makes a commission on each one. I wish you luck - I love your photos.
Again this is so wonderful. I am sure your shots were great or else they would not have picked them, and there is the next book isnt there?. I think 'Intimate Paris' is a wonderful idea, sure isnt Paris the city of Love.
I love the idea of doing an "intimate Paris" book, perhaps you could start a photoblog.
