Perseus by pattyblue

Perseus

I had a lovely day today with my sister visiting Trentham Gardens in Stoke-on-Trent.
This is a replica statue of Perseus holding the head of Medusa and stands at the head of the large lake in the grounds. The original statue is in Florence at the Loggia dei Lanzi and was sculpted by Benvenuto Cellini in 1555. This copy was made in 1840 for the Duke of Sutherland with permission of the then Duke of Tuscany and is the only copy ever allowed to be made.
I first visited Trentham as a child with my parents and found the formal gardens very boring as you do when you are a child but I vividly remember this statue. I was delighted to see it again today some 50 years later and having my mobile phone to snap some shots of it.
How interesting.

Brought back memories. I remember going to Trentham Gardens once when I was a child on a school trip.
