The old police station & engine house at 39 Church Lane Lincoln was built in 1880 along with the first public urinal in the City, in the engine house was kept a hose reel hand cart which was used as a first response tender, when the local residents wanted to report a fire, there was a hand bell by the front door, and policemen on their beats would alerted the station by lighting exploding fire rockets.
When Lincoln City purchased their first petrol driven Dennis fire engine in 1910, it spelled the death nell for the old engine house, I can't find records so far as to when it closed,
It is now used as a family home and is a listed building the front facade can not be altered in any way.
I think they were still using the first petrol driven fire engine when we lived in Welton in Lincolnshire in 1969. ha ha. There was a fire in the village and the fire engine was ancient and the crew looked like something out of Dad's Army. Luckily they managed to put out the fire though.
@onewing Welton is still a lovely village my mother lived there as a young girl, may have to visit and take some photographs, possibly the fire engine has been updated by now:)
