Ganny Lock by pcoulson

Ganny Lock

Another image from yesterday was we have had high winds and pouring rain all day. this is Ganny Lock and lock keepers cottage on the Calder and Hebble Navigation Canal.
I wondered what the two mushroom looking things were and realised it's to tie the boats up. You would think it would be a tripping hazzard.

Interesting photo, I suppose my relative must have lived in a cottage like this. Looks like a lovely place to live and to have a stroll.

I think one of the places he lived was at Mirfield but not sure how far that is from here, or even if it is on the same canal.

@bella_ss Thank you Sheralee, not so much a tripping hazard unless your mooring up a boat, fortunately there is always a footpath close to the canals, designed originally for the Packet boats pulled through the canals by a team of horses or mules who walked slowly along the bank before motors were fitted to the canal boats:)

@louannwarren Thank you Lou Ann, all are generally used for recreation nowadays and are maintained by the Canal and Waterways Trust, plus lots of volunteers giving their free time to keep them tidy and looking great:)

@onewing The cottages are now privately owned homes, how interesting about your relatives Babs, Mirfield not far away at all about 8 miles or 12.8 km along this canal, watch this space who knows what you might find:)
