St Thomas Becket Church

This church in Heptonstall was founded circa.1260, and was altered and added to over several centuries.
The church was damaged by a gale in 1847, then suffered a lightning strike in 1875, a new church, St Thomas the Apostle was built in the same churchyard, only 60 meteres to the east
What a ripper of a church. Reminds me very much of one of my favourite churches that was in Warleggan in Cornwall.

@onewing Thank you Babs it may look like its falling down but the structure is maintained in a safe condition for all to walk through and investigate:)

@365projectorgheatherb Thank you for your comment Heather I should have taken more notice of the dates, The original church was built between 1256 and 1260 so suspect they could date way back:)
