Taking Home the Christmas Tree by peggysirk

Taking Home the Christmas Tree

We bought our Christmas tree today. Small space living dictates a small space tree. It makes transporting it (and a wreath) home a simple and easy proposition! :)
This is great, Peggy. I live in suburbia and my husband and I often toy with the idea of urban living. You seem to be loving it.

OH! To have a real tree just like that in my house! I'd love it... but really it's not a good thing here as we get the biggest Huntsman Spiders coming off them! My Aunt and Uncle used to use a real tree each year and they also had a house full of spiders each year until one year, they bought a plastic tree and it ended their problems with the spiders.

I haven't had a real tree for years. Love the smell of the fir trees.

Great collage; I love the way it tells a story. And don't those wreaths look good, too?
December 6th, 2010
That is so great! I love how you can walk to get your tree!

Lovely collage :) I dont have a real tree, but my fake one is going up this evening. :)
December 6th, 2010
Love this collage. I can smell the greenery in this lot. Nicely done.

What a great collage! How festive!

Lovely collage Peggy, and I think it's so nice that you still get a real tree even though you are in a smaller space. There's nothing like the smell of a fresh Christmas tree to ring in the season.

@barbsmith I do love living in the city, Barb! When we moved here from suburban Atlanta as empty nesters, it was the perfect time to make the transition. Now there's no going back! Love the energy, diversity, and the lifestyle in general.

@mozette We've always had real trees, Lynda, and I've never experienced a problem with spiders...but, I'll certainly be keeping an eye out for anything crawling out of my tree now! :)
December 6th, 2010
@joetheartist I agree -there's nothing like the fresh fragrance of a Christmas tree!
December 6th, 2010
@girlie I got that very wreath on the top...now hanging on my front door.

@katrinacristy It makes tree buying a cinch. Last year our eldest daughter and her boyfriend, Jeff, were visiting from ATL when we bought our tree and Jeff carried it the few blocks home. Small tree, big guy, no problem. :)

@fluffy I know it's a lovely one! Happy decorating!! Will we be seeing a photo?
December 6th, 2010
@seattle I could smell the fragrance a block away...fresh trees from a little tree farm in the NC mountains.
December 6th, 2010
@pinkribbonwendi Thanks, Wendi...it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
December 6th, 2010
@petersonsheri I'm all about real trees...just love that Christmas fragrance! It's a tight fit in our compact living space, even the little trees ~ but so worth it!

Nice photo...looks like so much fun shopping for a tree just down the street...We got hit with 8" of snow last night and it hasn't stopped yet...talk about a winter wonderland...!
December 6th, 2010
@greenpots Wow...an 8 inch snowfall is something we very rarely experience around here. Two or three inches shuts the city down for days. You're going to have some fantastic photo ops with your winter wonderland!!!

Wonderful collage! I do so love the smell of fir trees!
December 6th, 2010
Brilliant, love the collage!
December 6th, 2010
I like it.
December 6th, 2010
They wrap your trees ???
December 6th, 2010
@15johnpatrick Thanks, John! Me too!!
December 6th, 2010
@hinhoutbay @sarasdadandmom Thanks so much!!
December 6th, 2010
@glyn Yes...sort of...they put the trees through a net machine that loosely bags up the trees to make them easier to transport. :)
December 6th, 2010
It's the time of the year again.......
December 6th, 2010
Looks like a good choice, and nice to see people using real tree's too
December 6th, 2010
have fun decorating it mine is done it too too long this year as my son picked a 7ft one i needed a ladder to put the top decorations on
December 6th, 2010
Wow, real trees. :)) We don't do that here in the Philippines. I don't think our trees look suitable for Christmas. So we use the plastic ones. :)
I like your shots! I will be following you. :P
December 6th, 2010
@emer Hope we see some photos of that huge tree!!
December 7th, 2010

Merry Christmas Great That You Found A Real Tree
December 7th, 2010
That looks like great fun! We've had an artificial tree for years but you just can't beat the smell of a real tree. Enjoy yours and thanks for sharing the experience! :)

Very cool!

Peggy --

go into the menu in your Nikon 5000. In settings, change the "AF area mode" feature from "auto area AF" mode to "single area". Then change "center af area" setting to "normal zone" if it isn't already.

This way you will be telling your camera to focus only on the little box displayed in the viewfinder, (which you will put on the owl or other single object located among many similar objects) and not on what the camera thinks is important (a tree branch).

This is the way I shoot birds and other animals in my woods.
