This very courageous mother bird was determined to keep this predator (black snake) away from her nest. She followed the snake all around the yard, chased it underneath a parked car, and then into some shrubs. I, unfortunately, didn't get a shot of the final nip she gave the snake's rear end as it disappeared under the shrubbery. :)
What a great collage, Peggy! This one really tells a story. Funny how you find yourself taking pictures of things you never thought to before the 365 project!
I'm not kidding about parking in the lot instead of on the street after viewing this. At least until winter. This bird is much more courageous than I would be when faced with a snake of any kind.
Wow, Peggy! Well done! I watched a Willy Wagtail chase a Red-bellied Black Snake all the way down our yard one day and the snake went hell for leather. amazing when they have babies to defend.

All snakes are rather creepy as far as I'm concerned, but I suppose this non-poisonous black snake serves a purpose in the ecosystem by eating mice and rats and such. :)
Pat ~ I believe that it's a Gray Catbird.
That is amazing, and she a much braver mama than I am!! Wow! That kind of reminds me of when I see small birds chasing the big crows around in the sky.
There is no way I would have been even able to capture this with a zoom lens...I would have been running in the complete opposite direction. You're a brave girl!
