Scenes like this are all the more poignant when the temperatures drop. There is a homeless shelter within a few blocks of where this man was setting up. For various reasons some people prefer sleeping on the street to the shelter.
Three good things:
1. A warm, loving home
2. Feeling safe
3. Compassion for those who don't have #'s 1 and 2
He has lots of stuff. You hear bad things about some of the shelters - not surprised some people would rather take their chance. Kate and WIlliam are coming to open one of our shelters next week. They are going there and the most struggling school in the city - I'm glad they aren't doing the university side of things - they get lots of royal already. I'm planning an escapade with my long lens but we'll see if it comes off!
@judithg Judith ~ He does seem to have a lot out there. My thought was that he had a friend's stuff that he was watching as well as his own. I'm sure the shelters can be a bit difficult and far from ideal living conditions. I was told that the primary reason some homeless individuals chose the street over shelters is due to their addictions. The shelters don't allow drugs or alcohol on site. Tough choice when it's cold outside but you can't live without your fix. Very sad. So glad Kate and Wills will be of good service while in Cambridge. Hope you get a shot of the adorable couple. William is a very distant cousin of mine on his mother's (Spencer) side...I always like to see what he and Harry are up to. :)
