Trade and Tryon by peggysirk

Trade and Tryon

Charlotte, NC was built upon the crossroads of two Native American trails. The intersection of these two paths became Trade Street and Tryon Street. There are bronze statues, created by Washington DC sculptor Raymond Kaskey, on each corner of the intersection representing different aspects of the city. This one of a mother and child is titled "Future". While the artist's work is impressive, the baby disturbs me just a bit as he looks to be middle aged. I think the bronze medium hardens him a bit beyond his years. ☺

Three Good Things:
1. A weekend forecast without rain and/or pollen so that I can wash my filthy car
2. A weekend forecast without rain so that I can finish my garden and container planting
3. The month of May
Oh my, you are right about the baby! However, I love the pov of this shot and the reflection in the window of your flag adds to the image.

A wonderful free graceful sculpture showing this mother & baby but I so agree about the baby face.....he looks rather gruesome! BeUtiful surroundings too!
Hopefully a nice dry weekend!

Civic art is a big responsibility! Better than the thing Cambridge has commissioned to mark the invention of the rules of football - budgetary concerns seem to have resulted in them deciding on a square block. I suppose you can't get that wrong.

@judithg A square block allows room for interpretation, but an ugly baby is an ugly baby. ☺

@peggysirk When my first daughter was born I thought ALL babies must be as beautiful. I have since seen some ugly babies. This one sure is, too. But I do love your flag!!! And the angles and curves you caught.
