at the corner of Trade & Tryon Street.
Trade Street was a Native American trading path and Tryon Street was once known as the Great Wagon Road/Trail. The intersection forms what is now known as Independence Square in the heart of uptown Charlotte. There are four huge bronze statues, one on each corner, representing the city's past and future. The mother and child statue, seen in the left corner, depicts the potential for Charlotte's future.
