This is Terry, a volunteer at the soup kitchen. I was stunned to learn that she will be turning 89 years young next month. She is planning on flying to Nova Scotia (her former home) to celebrate with her older sister who also has an April birthday and will be turning 99.
Three Good Things:
1. Aging vibrantly
2. Amazing mashed potatoes made with 10 lbs of brie cheese donated by Trader Joe's...actually TJ's donated the ground beef for meat loaf, the potatoes, the asparagus and the bread for yesterday's soup kitchen lunch. Trader Joe's is just awesome.
3. Starting spring cleaning today
Well this is why Terry is so long living I imagine, she keeps herself interested & busy! All in the mind I reckon, keep moving & chatting! Spring cleaning...what's that Peggy?
Wow! So much to comment on here! I don't know what area of Nova Scotia Terry is from, but Lunenburg is actually known as "A Blue Zone" for the number of centenarians who live there! It's been speculated to be genetics, partially, a diet that includes a lot of fish and a an active lifestyle! You'll have to ask her if she loves fish! (And I'd love to know where her sister lives) I've been to several birthday parties for folks in their 90s and one for a 100 y-o. Up there, "I'm just a sprout!"
So this is a wonderful picture, and the fact that you're working there as well, which you said you were so happy about!
AND...yes, God Bless Trader Joe's! We sure miss that store when we're in NS, but I can carry a lot of goodies in my suitcase ... and do!
@Weezilou Louise, I will definitely ask Terry where she grew up in Nova Scotia. I'm fascinated by the 'Blue Zone', of which Lunenburg is a part. I know that she has an active lifestyle and that both of Terry's parents were Scottish (and occasionally spoke Gaelic). I'll ask her if she includes a lot of fish in her diet...and will find out where in Nova Scotia her sister lives. She had four siblings, all but one are still living. And she has four children, fourteen grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. I also have a feeling she misses Nova Scotia greatly. She moved to NC about ten years ago to be closer to family after her husband died. She still lives independently in her own home. I just think she's amazing and delightful.
Trader Joe's is also amazing and delightful. They are more than generous with the fabulous donations of food they make to our soup kitchen! It's really quite remarkable...and very much appreciated!!
wow! that is an amazing spring cleaning list. Your home will be squeaky clean. We are having a good clear out and clean as we have just had our place painted inside and out and we are getting new carpet laid this week. I must ask though what is a floor register?
@cruiser Your house is clean and new from top to bottom! No need for spring cleaning. :) A floor 'register' is another name for 'vent'. Some homes have the air duct work under the flooring with the vents/registers on the floor. We happen to have ceiling vents/registers.
