COVID numbers are spiking in our county, so we are back under a stay-at-home directive until February 2. Photo opportunities are limited. I'm going with the squirrel.
Three Good Things:
1. I'm getting a lot of cleaning and organizing accomplished.
2. The soup kitchen is considered an 'essential' service, so I have an escape twice a week.
3. Optimism
These guys drive me crazy always trying to get into my bird feeder. I swear my neighbours think I am a crazy squirrel lady. But these guys are determined. They will sit in the snow, eating the bird feed they knocked down and look at me square in the eye. I recently bought a squirrel blocker. Seemed to work. But then there is one guy that's the high jumper and lands on the bird feeder. Tighten up the restraint and they are jumping from the tree onto the bird feeder. Cut the branch they are jumping on. I think I am winning now so far. See what Covid does to us lol. I used to like squirrels.
I used to like squirrels too. Until they started destroying the potted plant arrangements on my front porch. They dig out plants and dirt to bury nuts, leaving a huge mess and ruined plants. They have the whole yard and garden to bury stuff. I tried everything to protect the pots. Finally found a weapon that works...bamboo skewers. The sharp shish kabob skewers. I stick them all around and throughout the pots. They work. Just have to be careful when deadheading and replacing plants. Those skewers can draw blood. :)
