We're getting pretty efficient at this. Today we made and packed up sloppy joes and coleslaw, along with chips, apples, and cookies for today's soup kitchen lunch; prepped a few things for Monday's lunch; organized the spice shelves; and cleaned the kitchen by 10:30. We left 200 lunches with the distribution team to give out and headed home early on a gorgeous November Friday.
Three Good Things:
1. Working with an awesome group of volunteers/friends
2. The grandbuddies are coming for a sleepover tonight
3. Reservations for dinner at The Cheesecake Factory - their new favorite restaurant. 🙂
The dream team!! You do wonders. I spent six or seven minutes yesterday talking to a homeless man in Blackpool. He was sitting up to the car park pay place & very kindly showed me how to use my card to pay. I only had a £5 note on me, no coins. He was very interesting & it all went downhill after his wife divorced him, I gave him the £5 note & he said he used all the money he received in sustenance & you could tell….he was clean tidy & fairly healthy looking for a fifteen year long homeless man. I thought at first he was waiting for a bus, he’d gone when I got back. I didn’t think until afterwards to ask him about food kitchens.
@happypat I love your telling of the meetup with the homeless man in Blackpool. I know your interaction meant so much to him. So often they are overlooked or avoided. Acknowledgement makes such a difference. ♥
