My father was a pastry cook and baker. As a youth I would help in the bakery every afternoon, serve in the shop on Saturday mornings, and during holidays do a little more. Christmas and Easter were always the busiest of times.
Yesterday my daughter and I baked this cake. The fruit had soaked overnight in brandy and sherry. I showed her the technique for lining a tin that my father had taught me - lining tins had always been fun. Mixing the ingredients and decorating the cake with almonds brings its own joy.
The cake baked for three and half hours, and weighs 2.5 kilos or 5.5 pounds. It has now gone into a tin to rest for a few weeks.
The cake looks delicious! After a few weeks, I bet it'll taste just fantastic. That's a mouth-watering shot (and description). I blame you for the urge to eat some cake now. Heh.
I adore learning about other peoples Christmas traditions!! This looks like a delicious cake! Great story! Thanks for the follow Peter- Following you back :)
