Early this morning we drove up the Maquarie Pass through the fog to the Southern Highlands where magically the town of Brigadoon appears once a year out of the mist. Every April, for one day, the town of Bundanoon is transformed. Miraculously overnight all the town signs are transformed to say Brigadoon. Even the town fire engines say Brigadoon, NSW.
The clans gather at Brigadoon to hear the pipes, watch the dancing and participate in highland games, eat some haggis and maybe enjoy a dram or two.
The day begins with the pipe & drum bands, and clans marching through the town. A parade marshall thought the wee fella might enjoy the march from a witches hat with a prime view. Which reminds me of that age old question: are there witch's in Brigadoon.
Guess I'm going to have to look up my Scottish lore. Don't know much about Brigadoon. I don't think they covered that on any of my TV shows growing up! =8-0 You know what they say, everything I know I learned from watching TV.
I would LOVE to be there for that day!! What a beautiful capture, Peter! Love the marching steps together, the bagpipes, and the kilts. Wonderful scene .... byw, how did you like that "haggis?" :)
I will someday make to a gathering of the clans-it's in my blood and I'd love to see it! I already love the sound of the pipes and whenever we can make it to a Celtic music festival over here, we try to go. Right now I'm hearing Scotland the Brave in my head! Nice shot!
Brigadoon is a Place that is unaffected by time, a place that is idyllic, remote from reality! Great tourist venture for the town! Nice to hear about and see the swirl of the kilts!
Wonderful shot. I have been once to watch the Edinburgh Military Tatoo and it was something out of this world with all those pipers in clan attire and the lit castle as a backdrop.
