@fueast started on thyroxin today for the rest of my life. Saw surgeon yesterday. Apart from leg, it seems that I have had long term thyroiditis (Hashilmotos disease) which had been undiagnosed, and has caused inflammation to gland and nymph nodes. There were two nodules on gland, but post operative pathology revealed that there was a tumour about size of pea, of an aggressive malignancy. Will have be given radioactive iodine to mop up but had not spread it seems to lymph glands. Very lucky it was found. Good thing I went trekking in Utah slipped over and twisted my leg, which led to discovery of sarcoma on leg and other investigations. Both leg and thyroid conditions are particularly rare in men. Felt a bit shocked after he told me yesterday, but am thankful for my guardian spirit /angel watching over me.
@peterdegraaff oh crikey it does seem like you've had a lot to contend with over the last few months. Sounds like they're doing all the right things and have caught things in time. Hopefully you'll be back to normal soon. Good to hear that hiking may be the thing that saved you!
You've certainly earned any leftovers ! Sounds like a serendipitous fall, if that's possible; wishing you the best with your treatment. cake looks fantastic.
I'm so sorry to hear all the health issues. Good luck with winning that battle! I love fruit cake and this looks wonderful but you know they say we are what we eat?
