Peter, I just did a bit of a google on your scanner. I've been using one of the cheapies for all the boxes and boxes of slides I now have which were my English Grandparents'. Honestly, the quality differs from slide to slide (or negative). There's no consistency. Would you recommend the CanoScan or is there something else out there you now wish you had? I don't really need another flatbed scanner (or want any more gadgets). My HP $55 (4 yrs ago) printer/scanner scans clearly - even photos. It's just the slides and negatives. But if the quality is that much better, perhaps you'll tell me it's worth it...
@sheliwithani I had been using a small cheap scanner, but this was not able to do 120 film negatives. There are a number of good scanners around, so did the research on comparisons. The Canoscan 9000F is fairly reasonably priced and there are good deals on net, The quality of reproduction of negatives, particularly 120 film I am very pleased with. The comparable Epson Perfection scanners are far more costly, particularly the the 600 & 700 V. Since I like to use 120 film, because it produces large negatives which are better for scanning, it was cheaper to get a scanner like this, than to have them scanned with developing.
Thanks for the info, Peter. Everything I read says,"Continuous scanning of up to 2 rows of 35mm filmstrip or 4 mounted slides". Does that mean you put your 120mm negs on the scanner bed itself?
@sheliwithanihttp://www.imaging-resource.com/SCAN/CS9000/9000F.HTM only one scanner does not have glass between negative and scanner. That is Artixscan. You can look at the review on that site as well. Great if you run a business or have a lazy thousand, which I would rather spend on more cameras and film
That's a great review to keep and this product sounds just like what I need. Most of the photos (slides) I have been given are of my Grandparents' holidays around Europe, before it became the trendy thing to do. There are hardly any tourists and some of the fashions are, I guess, what we now call vintage. There's a few shots I've just not been able to get any quality into at all and maybe this is my solution. Thanks very much for your help and the cheapest price I've found happens to be from a place just up the road from work.
