Phil..on bright days like this I use a Fader ND filter (i.e. a variable neutral density filter) not very expensive & it will allow you to make shots like this without the overexposure.
Sucks when something like that happens, do you shoot raw? Sometimes you can get back blown out highlights and areas that are too dark from the raw image file you can't get from the jpg
@indianabluejay Thanks Jim, I only shoot in raw occasionally because it fills up the memory card too quickly, also I only recently bought some software than can handle raw and I'm still learning how to use it!
