One more from the past. This people protest against the disposal site for Moscow garbage that is being constructed here in the north. The construction goes in breach of all the possible laws, but nobody seems to give a damn. Few weeks ago a local journalist somehow managed to ask the president about it and he made an order to postpone all the works, but the only thing that had actually changed since – now works are being performed twice as fast as before.
Local people have been protesting for few months now and trying to stop works on their own (blocking the roads, etc.), but of course there's very little they can do when police, money and authorities on the opposite site.
This small fact opens a whole lot of problems we have nowadays. I don't wanna talk about our political regimen, but there are so many of them on the ecological side. Moscow produces so much garbage that all the nearby disposal sites are full to the brim while the small cities where they are located are choking from the poisonous stink. And this one on the north is only going to postpone the problem for a little while. And it's more than thousand kilometers from Moscow, so we're going to spend a megawatts of energy and tons of toxic fuel just to transfer this garbage to the site in the north from where it would be much easier for it to get to the ocean. Then very soon it will become full and we'll be needing another one. It's sad in other words.
But the silver lining is that everyday I see more and more people becoming aware of the problem. It's probably because I've been surrounded with such people for a while, but the tendency is definitely good. So, I'm hoping we still have a chance to win this fight and to not let our planet become a planet of garbage.
